I used the Superfreak 98 in my ASA rec league playoffs last night. No messing around, 12 for 12 with a walk. Laserbeams all over the field even with those awful gold dot restricted flight balls. That bat is going to be amazing when it’s fully open. Seriously amazing.
Philip Massey from Il says on 8.4.10:
I just wanted to write to say that I am very happy with the service I was provided by your company. Last weekend I purchased a Super Freak 98 from you folks and received the bat yesterday. Your reviews on the bat were correct as it was super hot even out of the wrapper. We only took about 20 swings on it prior to our rec league playoff games last night and my team and I were extremely pleased with the results.
Brent (Alabama says on 7/17/10:
I just purchased the 2011 Miken Super Freak 98 and I took BP for about 50 swings, after that my friend and I were consistently cranking out shots that were either hitting the fence or going over. I am about 5'10'' 165 and I was consistently hitting balls 300-300+ft. This is by far the hottest bat out of the wrapper I have ever hit. Love the bat and the prices.
Tim Boyer from Lewiston, ID says on 6.3.10:
I recently purchased the 2011 Miken Super Freak 98 .. 28 ounce.. have hit a couple bp sessions and a couple games and will use th e 2011 super freak 98 over the OG synergy extended we have on our team .. I play ASA league with low compression balls and also some USSSA tournaments and will use the 2011 Super Freak 98 for both it has all a guy needs.
Ken Kelly from Canada says on 5.25.10:
Hi Mike, I received my bat last week and only had an opportunity to swing it a few times but those few swings made me very happy. Immediately the first few balls jumped off the bat with loud cracks and distance which grabbed the attention of the guys in my dug out. I don't hit a lot of long HR's but I hit one that first night that caught the attention of the umpire who asked to see the bat afterwards to ensure it was an ASA approved bat. Even after the game was over a couple of guys from the opposing team came to me and wanted to know what I was swinging and where they could get one. I can't wait to get more swings and see what it can do once it is fully broke in. I also wanted to say thanks for your break in service, I believe it had a lot to do with the bats immediate distance out of the wrapper.
Marty Aldrich from Id says on 5.19.10:
as an owner of the Miken super freak I was excited to see that Kelly's came out with the super freak 98 for asa. After reading the reviews I was a little skeptical to purchase the bat thinking that it would be a typical new 98 mph toned down bat. I did break down and purchase the bat last week and received it today. I was really excited that it came so fast and got a few players together for a lunch batting practice session. I was the first to swing it and thought it would take at least 100 cuts to break in.. (out of the first 20 balls hit 5 were off the fence and I managed to sneak 1 over). This bat is sick, the line drives are crisp and the ball jumps off the bat. Thank you for selling the super freak line I am very excited to see what the bat can do once broke in..
Paul Pollock from Ottumwa, Ia says on 5.12.10:
Let me first start off by saying I’ve always swung Easton or Worth bats. As soon as I heard about the new Super Freak 98 coming out I was interested right away based on the reviews and video’s I had seen. There are so many manufacturer’s that say they offer the best ASA bat “based on extensive research and development”. In my honest opinion, M iken has the top bat on the market with this Super Freak 98. The hype is for real, buy one and try it for yourself.
Right out of the wrapper I was impressed. The feel of the midload was very smooth and didn’t feel like all the weight was at the end cap like ot her bats. The grip feels solid and the thin handle will help with bat control. I prefer to drop my pinky so the size of the knob was within the comfort range. The color and graphics on this bat stand out as well. People will know right away your swinging a Super Freak 98.
First round of bp we hit around 75 balls, using .44/.375 gold dots and evil balls. The balls were coming off the bat with awesome speed and distance. Call it a “seed”, “lazer”, “s hot” or whatever but the balls were screaming. When you make the threads sing you know it’s a good hit. The next day I went to a batting cage and hit off a tee just to get more hits on it. Who doesn’t love hitting cage bombs? I could feel the bat loosening up really well after anoth er 125-150 hits on it and the sound was getting better.
Took the Super Freak 98 to a tournament (unlimited height) this past weekend and had a lot of people ask me about what I thought. They had seen the reviews and videos as well. I told them straight up this bat will be the bat to have for sure. If you don’t have one, you’ll wish you did. Or you’ll be asking your buddy to borrow his and don’t be mad if he says no.
Alex Magallanes from Mississauga, ON, Canada says on 5.11.10:
After some recent brutal weather in Mississauga, i was able to take it out for 50 swings last nite. a mix of 40-44 core balls, between 325-525 compression, the typical ASA balls used in our area.
64 degrees fahrenheit, no wind.
The "mid load" is very impressive, eats up the ball very well, hard knuckling liners on a consistent basis.
The loading felt slightly more than a recoil max (not too much diff), and less loading than a psycho supermax (you can tell the diff).
The hollow crack sound is fun to hear, unlike a traditional crack of a recoil, NRG, OG freak 98, or the Vicious.
This bat did not feel stiff, like a traditional Miken.
Distance was very good, quite a few easily landed 300'+
I am 5'-7, 175lbs. not the typical power hitter.
Right out of the gate this bat is very impressive, i can only imagine how much better it will be with 100-150 more swings.
More importantly, its an easy bat to transition into. Whether you use a balanced (which i normally use), or a supermax miken.
Charles Hackett from Monongahela, Pa says on 5.10.10:
I had 2 great bp session with it, I used .44 375's and .47 375 sb12's, I spoke with Mike Kelly after I found out that I had won one on his site, he was very gracious and gave great details about the the specifics of the bat and we had an informative conversation about softball in general...(He knows his stuff) and the bat is just as he described, the midload is a great idea for the E to A player, it is not overbearing but it does bring you through the zone very nicely...it swings true to weight and I am very very happy with the results.
I used .44 375's NRG's and .47 375 sb12's for bp. The line drives were crisp and when I swung for the fence I wasn't disappointed at all....this bat will definitely be my ASA Gamer.
We had a league game yesterday and they use .44 375 restricted flight sb12's on a 300ft field, I don't usually quote stats but for the sake of this review.... 4-4 2 hrs and 2 singles and 3 teammates are going to order one this week.
Dave Hanna for Rochester NY says 0n 5.10.10:
Mike,
I knew I needed a new U2Maxload – my other one broke.
I didn’t know that I needed this new Super Freak until I hit it Saturday – WOW!
It’s really solid – I’ve never hit a “midload” before – I’ve always been an endload guy.
Thanks for getting them to me before my game tonight (Monday).
(I may have to burn the Chaos and all the Worth’s…)
Good luck to you this year.

Mike O'Neal from Livermore, CA says on 5.6.10:
The bat was on my doorstep when I got home today! Love the looks of it!! A friend of mine was at the park before we got there and he had just got his and had it out there so I got to hit 25-28 balls with his. For a mid load its a bit endloaded. I was pretty impressed, it was hitting the ball well considering it only had 10 swings when I got to hit it. It hit better than my J2.... I look forward to getting out and swinging it more... I took vid of the round and the guys want me to post it which I will. Thanks again for the opportunity Mikey
Robert Stanton from Kelso, WA says on 5.3.10:
Okay so today we took some initial cuts with the new Miken Super Freak 98 ASA. I was impressed initially with the distance out of the wrapper, we were consistantly hitting in the 220-310 range. But I think the thing I like the most is the feel. It wasn't hard or stinging on mishits that you commonly find on NIW bats. I was surprised with how often we found the sweet spot. The sweet spot isn't huge right now but had some really hard line drives. I can see this not needing very much of a break in and am looking forward to our next bp. I will update after this next week.
Robert Stanton update 5.19.2010:
Okay this bat now has about 300-400 hits on it and is doing great. Of the ASA bats I have hit this bat has the least to get used to. It is a midload bat, but swings slightly endloaded. The Super Freak is also a very forgiving bat. We just had a second bp with it the other day. It was about 61 degrees with no wind and we used .44 cor 375 comp ASA balls. I hit about 40 balls at first and maybe had a half dozen fly outs. I had 7 that would've cleared a 300' fence and the rest were either gappers or hard line drives. The sound is what ALL composites should sound like, solid and you know you hit a ball. I am yet to have any vibration, even when hitting the handle it just feels hard with no vibration (this may be due to the DuraShell Technology as it shields the outer shell). The sweetspot is much easier to find now, however it wasn't too difficult in the first place. The ball response is definately better, it really pops now and is coming off faster. I think this is one of the most versitle bats I've swung, whether you're a power guy or base hit guy. The bat is definately one of the best ASA bats out there as far as pop, distance, and sound. One of the girls from a coed team came out and hit it and was having great success with it. She insists it's the best bat she's swung. I can't say too much on durablity yet but it is a Miken.
So in a nutshell, right now This would be the top ASA bat for me (I will be swinging the Freak DST soon). If you're looking for a bat that looks and performs great for ASA with little break in then this is the one to pick up. Just hit up Kelly's Ultimate Sports and get one.
Personal Review from Anthony Kelly:
I tested this bat with Mike Kelly and Adam Peterson from Miken Sports on 3-23-2010 at Hemenway Valley Park in Boulder City, NV. The field is 300 feet all around. The temp was around 65 degrees and the wind was blowing to right field, so the ball carried great to right but did not help too much to left field. We used brand new miken 44/400 compression softballs. We tested a 28oz. right out of the wrapper. I hit the bat first and was hitting them right out of the park fresh out of the wrapper. I even hit mishit a few that still went out of the park and that is always the true sign of a special bat. The one I hit off of the scoreboard in left I barely even hit and it still went out of the park. Adam Peterson from Miken tested the bat second and he hit 16 homers including some tape measure shots over 400 foot and some really nice hard liners out of about 30 swings. 58 year old Mike Kelly hit the bat third and shows in his video that a senior player can get it done with the new ASA standard 98 mph bats and he ended up hitting 4 homers in a row. DESCRIPTION:
2011 Miken Super Freak 98 ASA Softball Bat. Midload swing weight. Right in between balanced and maxload. Hot out of the wrapper. This Midload is perfect for the rec players all the way up to competitive B level players. It's not too endloaded and it is not too balanced and has a great feel to it. The Midload weighting is perfect for the slightly higher pitches in ASA play. We are also hearing from a lot of players that there Asa league is now requiring that the number 98 be somewhere on the bat itself, so we had it put right on the middle of the barrel and that will take care of that issue shoud it arise in your local league. Thin Handle. 100% Composite. R900 Carbon fiber provides 38.8" higher tensile strength than industry standard carbon fiber. (DST) Durashell Technology acts as a composite "shield" on the outer shell of the 100% carbon fiber barrel, maximizing performance out of the wrapper.
